Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5 (a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were operating forklift trucks without wearing the seat belt exposing them to potential crushing injuries. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to employ the use of the seat belts supplied by the manufacturer as outlined in ANSI B56.1 and OSHA'S CPL 2-1.28A requiring the use of seat belts. Location: On the ramp between parking levels P1 and P2. The employee operating a fork truck without the use of a seatbelt crushed his leg when he was ejected from the overturned forktruck.
