Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard. (a)Employees were exposed to multiple injuries or death by use of an orderpicker that was not used in accordance with the acceptable regulation with the regulation of the American National Standard Institute ANSI B56.1 1993, Sec 4.17.2 (c): Be certain that required restraining means such as a railing/chains/cables, body belts with lanyard or a deceleration devices are in place and used properly. On December 12, 2003, the employer let an employee go up on an orderpicker without any form of fall protection used. The employee was approximately eight feet up from ground level. Among other methods of abatement include; (1) Use of a body belt/harness system. No Abatement Certification or Abatement Documentation required.tion
