Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CAUGHT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a caught in hazard: a) Private residence, 107 Cedar Ave., Allenhurst, N.J. - Employee feeding tree limbs into the hopper of a chipper was exposed to the hazards associated with chipping operations in that the employee had not been trained. On or about 06/14/03. Among other methods, feasible and reasonable abatement methods to correct this hazard are to develop a policy that follows the recommendations as outlined in the American National Standard Institute's standard, Pruning, Repairing, Maintaining, and Removing Trees, and cutting Brush - Safety Requirements (ANSI Z133.1 revision 2000). These requirements include, but are not limited to: 1) Training shall be provided in the proper operation, feeding, starting and shutdown procedures for the chipper being used, in accordance with ANSI Z133.1, revision 2000 sections 4, 6.3 and 9.6.
