Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by two (2) unsecured compressed gas cylinders. The two (2) cylinders were not secured to prevent them from being knocked over, on or about 6-16-2004. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1.Follow the Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet P-1-1965, and in that section 3.4.4 states before using cylinders, be sure it is properly supported to prevent it from being knocked over. 2.Use a suitable cylinder truck, chain or other steadying device to keep cylinders from being knocked over.
