Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: a) 34 Exchange Place, Plaza 2, Jersey City NJ Employee that was installing a compressor into a ceiling AC unit was carrying an 80 pound compressor up the ladder and lost his balance resulting in a 7-8 foot fall. The employee hit his back on a credenza then hit the floor. The compressor landed on his chest. "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use a Mini Electric Scissor Lift to lift the employee and equipment to be installed". Violation occurred on or about 3/28/2003.
