Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Bay 3 - Midas Auto Service - 277 South 27th Street, Boise, ID; The employer allowed employees to work with/under an automotive four post hydraulic lift with inoperative lift locks exposing them to various hazards including but not limited to being crushed by the falling lift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to have the lift repaired by a qualified repairman as well as establishing, implementing and enforcing an effective program for inspecting and maintaining the required mechanical integrity of the automotive lift. For further information, refer to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Automotive Lift (ALI) standard for automotive lifts (ANSI/ALI B153.1 and ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000). Note: Abatement certification IS required for this item.
