Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a release of chlorine gas: Storage Area: The employer did not ensure incompatible chemicals were separated to prevent accidental mixing. A container of 0.8Hydrochloric Acid was stored on the same secondary containment with a container of sodium hypochlorite which allowed for mixing of the chemicals in the event of a spill. Mixing of hydorchloric acid and sodium hypochlorite releases highly toxic chlorine gas.rine
