Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing hazard: (a) B&B Excavating, at the Bluffs Development, Eagle, CO: On or before May 19, 2003, the employer did not ensure that employees who were moving fill dirt were outside of the swing radius of the Cat. Excavator Model #330 as they completed their work, thereby exposing them to a crushing hazard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to observe the Machine Operation section of the Maintenance and Operations Manual. The section informs users to "be sure no one is working on or near the machine to prevent injury." Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (See enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
