Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to pinch points and being caught-in/between hazards: a. The employer did not ensure that the Automatic Powered Conveyors emergency shut off switch located on the Heat Bundling Machines was within employees reach, exposing employees to being caught in the rollers and not being able to shut off the conveyors in the event of an emergency, on or about 02/19/03. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to relocate the emergency shut off switch to the employees/operators work station area.
