Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: At this facility in the fab shop where employees operate two press brakes with the foot control, employees were exposed to the points of operation of the press brakes: (a) Fab Shop area: Pacific J-series Hydraulic press brake, s/n 91413, used to bend and shape metal, point of operation was not guarded, stroke was initiated by a foot pedal. (b) Fab Shop area: Niagara press brake, model HBM 350-12-14 , used to bend and shape metal, point of operation was not guarded, stroke was initiated by a foot pedal. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: Implement an effective "Safe Distance" Safeguarding Program as described in ANSI B11.3 1982, Safety Requirements for Construction, Care, and Use of Power Press Brakes. Elements of the program include: (a)Exposure prevention procedures (b)Training (c)Retraining (d)Supervision (e)Periodic inspections
