Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a forklift: On or about June 24, 2004, an employee was not wearing the safety seat belt while operating a John Deere lift along Berth 8 at the Port of Fort Pierce. Among other methods of abatement, a feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to prohibit employees from operating this type of equipment without wearing seat belts. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
