Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees operating farm equipment traffic without seat belts and mirrors were exposed to the hazard of being struck by other vehicles while driving in interstate highways: On or about 10/02/03, while driving south bound in Interstate 95 near the overpass of State Road 76 in Stuart, Florida, an employee on route to a new fruit picking location was exposed to the hazard of being struck by other moving vehicles while operating a "loader/packing goat" truck without mirrors and seat belts. Among others, a feasible and acceptable abatement method to prevent this hazard from occurring again is to prevent the use of farm equipment on the main roads where high speed vehicular traffic occurs and to equip the "loader/goat" truck with seat belts and rear/side view mirrors. PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
