Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees cutting grass were exposed to drowning hazards: On or about 08/11/03, near the Burgundy E. building, employees were exposed to the hazard of drowning while operating an Exmark mower on steep slopes up to 16.5 degrees alongside a canal. Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to prevent employees from operating mowers on steep slopes and/or near steep banks as specified in the operator's manual of the equipment. PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
