Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees working on a farm were exposed to the hazard of drowning: On or about 02/04/03, at the range 39-section 15 of the Township 43 farm, employees traveling to their work site were exposed to the hazard of drowning while driving alongside an unprotected canal with limited visibility due to adverse weather conditions. Among others, feasible and acceptable abatement methods include: (a) place reflective markers alongside the road between the canal and the road to identify when the vehicle is off the road, and (b) divide the road from the canal by placing a berm between the road and the canal or install another physical barrier to prevent vehicles from leaving the road and accidently entering the canal. PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
