Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about February 4, 2004, an employee was exposed to the hazard of being crushed between the aerial lift guardrails and overhead obstructions such as structural steel and joists. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard would be to: Comply with ANSI/SIA A92.5 - 1992 for Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platforms. Section 8.8 During operation states: "The aerial lift platform shall be used in accordance with this standard. The operator shall ensure the following before each elevation of the platform: e) Ensure there is adequate clearance from overhead obstruction."
