Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being sprayed with hot asphalt: (a) Location - Asphalt plant: On or about 9/2/04, the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from exposure to hot asphalt. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are to (1) Provide over-pressure protection for both sides of the pump if the pump is going to be used for pumping in both directions. (2) Provide proper attachment mechanism between the hose and pump fittings.
