Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of being crushed while lifting a piston casing using a rope and a winch. (a) Location: Ground floor, 121 Loring Avenue, Salem, MA: On or about 03/23/2004, employees were exposed to crushing hazards while lifting a piston casing using a rope and a winch. Among other means, feasible means of abatement would be to; 1) Follow rope manufacturers recommendations for safe working load ratio's. 2) Follow winch manufacturers recommendations for safe working load capacities.
