Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling while working in an aerial ladder. (a) Location - 1298 Worcester Street, Natick, Ma; On or about 08/27/2003, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard while working from an aerial ladder which had a defective cable and a broken safety latch. Among other means, feasible means of abatement would be to: (1) Upon noticing a frayed cable, remove equipment from service and perform maintenance according to the manufacturers recommendations. (2) Perform a thorough inspection on all safety features according to the manufacturers operational manual.
