Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: ABF Freight Systems, Inc. - The employer failed to furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards of crushing due to forklift overturn and the lack of seat belt use. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement is: 1.Develop and implement written procedures as per ASME Standard B56.1-2000, requiring operators of powered industrial trucks to wear seat belts provided when operating the vehicles. 2.Develop and implement disciplinary procedures to ensure that employees wear seat belts while operating the vehicles. 3.Review and audit the company's training program and trainers to ensure that information being presented is true and factual as per the latest regulatory directives and reflects OSHA policy and generally accepted industry practices such as ASME B56.1-2000.
