Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a. On or about April 25, 2003, employees were exposed to the hazard of being seriously burned. This hazard was created while nitrocellulose was being used, handled, and stored improperly, increasing the potential for ignition. Feasible means of abatement include, but are not limited to the following guidelines "set" by NFPA 35-1999 "Manufacture of Organic Coatings", Sections: 6-1.1.2, 6-1.2.3, 6-1.2.9, 6-1.3.2, 6-1.3.5: (1) Store nitrocellulose with only inert materials (2) Use a two-hand truck with non-ferrous "grab" for drum handling (3) "Warning" signs shall be posted (4) Use spark resistant scoops for dispensing (5) Bond and ground while dispensing
