Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPOPPROC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) The hazard of possible unexpected movement of the machine and/or the load due to the operator being out of visual contact of the controls of the forklift while the forks were elevated with personnel on the platform. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to control the hazard would be to follow the guidelines set forth in ASME B 56.6 2002, Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklifts for a safety platform and to keep the operator within 25 feet and visual contact with the controls.
