Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard at the 22 foot level when installing wood trusses from the platform of a boom supported elevating work platform. (a)Garden Spot Village, Medical Facility - An employee was working twenty two (22) feet above the ground from an Upright boom supported elevated work platform. The employee was observed standing on the midrail of the manlift, reaching out over the edge of the lift, while not being connected to the manlift with a personal fall arrest system, on or about January 14, 2004. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard includes using a personal fall arrest system, with the lanyard attached to the boom or basket of the personnel lift, as outlined in the American National Standards Institute safety standard for Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platforms (ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992)ted
