Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LOCKOUT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being caught in between stationary objects and moving elevators: Location: 234 East 149th Street Bronx NY 10451 On or before 12/12/02, a) The employer did not ensure that lockout/tagout procedures were utilized by employees during the installation of access switches on several elevators including but not limited to elevator #12. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that employees utilize the appropriate lockout/tagout procedure as referenced in sections 7 & 8 of the Elevator Industry Field Employees' Safety Handbook. NOTE: In addition to abatement certification, the employer is required to submit abatement documentation for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.ce
