Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falls: a) Employees required to access the dome and hatch on top of the tanker trucks were not protected from falls of nine feet five inches to the ground below, on or about 08/08/02. Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard would be to: 1) Install a protective railing system as found in 29 CFR 1910.23(e) to completely enclose the portion of the tanker truck being walked on. 2) Install a horizontal lifeline system to be used with a full body harness equipped with a rear D-ring and lanyard.
