Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards associated with storing trusses horizontally between the wall supports. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to follow the Truss Plate Institute Commentary and Recommendations Summary Sheet for Handling, Installing & Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses. Cape Museum of Fine Arts, new addition: a) On December 19, 2002, an employee/supervisor was fatally injured when two stacks of 28 foot long trusses, which were stored on the flat between two framed walls and supported by two vertical 2"x4" posts, fell to the concrete floor. The 2"x4" posts collapsed causing the trusses to fall while the employee was on top of the stacks of trusses. b) All the temporary bracing was not installed during each truss installation as required by Truss Plate Institute Summary Sheet HIB-91 .
