Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC

Title 21 V.S.A. Chapter 3, Subchapter 5, Section 223 (a), Section 5 (a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing, or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to serious burn or electrocution from damaged welding cables. Location: A) Front entrance door of the facility. B) Inside the building, at the front, adjacent to the support column. Violation: Welding cables in location A) were pinched by the closing action of the spring loaded, and metal framed entrance door and B) welding cables run along the concrete floor at the front of the facility, were run over by such heavy equipment as the mobile, vertical, personnel lift, (which, at the time of the inspection, was parked on a welding cable). Among other feasible methods to correct this hazard... physically guard welding cables that run in proximity to damaging equipment, or run welding cables in such a way as to remove them from proximity of potentially damaging equipment.
