Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CHEMICAL
A.R.S.23-403 (A): The employer did not furnish to each of his/her employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his/her employees from exposure to Hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) without pre-placement and annual medical examinations to rule out the employee's sensitization to HDI. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), as well as chemical producers of HDI, recommend (through MSDS information provided with the chemical purchase) to the employers that medical surveillance, including pre-placement and annual medical exams, be conducted to prevent exposing sensitized employees to HDI. a) 220 Ruger Rd., Prescott, AZ - Paint Booth area: The employer failed to provide medical surveillance for employees who were being exposed to hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). This chemical was being mixed by employees and applied within a spray booth in a semi-automatic process, which required paint technicians to enter the booth while the spraying was in progress.
