Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by a harvesting truck: On or about 05/02/02, at the center of block 28 of Division II, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck and run over by powered equipment with lack of rear visibility operated in reverse gear. Among other methods of abatement, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are: (a) to install side and rear mirrors to enhance the visibility of the operator while backing up a loader truck; (b) to eliminate the practice of backing up the loader trucks in the drive middle; (c) to use a ground guide while the loader truck is backing up; and (d) to install rear view safety vision monitors that could eliminate blind spots at the rear of the loader truck.
