Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer failed to provide a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) On or about September 11, 2002, at the above address job site, an employee doing work approximately 40 feet above the ground, stood on the mid rail of a of a United Rentals lift. He and another employee were not wearing safety belts, nor did they have any other means of fall protection. Using fall protection while in the lift is required by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI A92.5-1992), Standard for Boom-Supported Elevated Working Platforms. The employees were thereby exposed to the hazards associated with falls of approximately 40 feet to the ground.
