Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to point of operation amputation hazards on an unguarded, large capacity industrial meat blending/mixing machine on which the controls for E-stop, start, blade direction selection and door opening functions were not labeled. AMFEC Blender. Employees were exposed to amputation hazards from the machine's unguarded rotating mixing blades when the hydraulic doors of the machine were opened to discharge meat. The controls for the E-stop, start, blade direction and door opening functions were not labeled, which could have contributed to or caused an accident. CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM A feasible means of abatement would be to comply with the National Fire Protection Association, Inc.'s standard, NFPA 79-1997, Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery, Section 13.6.
