Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to unguarded hoistway access openings. a)Prill Tower elevator, Ammonium Nitrate, Prill and AOP Complex: The elevator was not maintained in accordance with the American National Standard for Elevators and Escalators (ASME A17.1-2000). Elevator hoistway had access openings that were not locked or closed. Among feasible abatement methods, the elevator hoistway should have access openings designed in accordance with section 2.7. of the ASME A17.1-2000 Code. Access openings shall be provided with doors that shall be kept closed and locked. CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
