Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were working in a self propelled extendible boom aerial lift and were not utilizing an appropriate fall arrest system. a)Eola Road Branch Library jobsite, southeast side of jobsite - Employee working in an extendable boom aerial lift approximately 40 feet above grade was exposed to fall hazards. Employee did not utilize a fall arrest system. b) Eola Road Branch Library jobsite, northeast side of jobsite - Employee working in an extendable boom aerial lift approximately 27 feet above grade was exposed to fall hazards. Employee did not utilize a fall arrest system. c)Eola Road Branch Library jobsite, northeast side of jobsite - Employee working in an extendable boom aerial lift approximately 27 feet above grade was exposed to fall hazards. Employee was standing on the guardrails of the aerial lift. Among feasible means of abatement would be to comply with the American National Standards Institute, ANSI A92.5-1992 Standard for Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platforms and, 1) Require that employees wear fall arrest every time they are in an aerial lift. 2) Require that employees keep their footing on the platform floor, and not climb onto the guardrails. NO CERTIFICATION OR DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
