Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a.On or about October 23, 2002, employees were exposed to falling loads and/or falling hoist parts: Floor Assembly area: The hoist used in all areas of assembly were not kept in good repair in that the following deficiencies were noted: (a) the spreader type lifting devices and the spreader bar lifting devices were not marked with their weight and lifting capacities and no rated load tests were conducted on these devices with a written report to confirm the device lifting capacity. (b) One device utilized to lift floor assemblies exhibited damage in that the aluminum frames were bent evidencing possible overload of the device. Additional abatement information is required for this item. One method of abatement is to ensure each lifting device is manufactured and tested in accordance with ANSI B30.20a-2001.
