Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a steel beam. (a)jobsite: Matenson & Westminster Street, Providence RI. Employees were exposed to a struck by hazard when unsecured rigging was not designed and set up to withstand lateral forces. Specifically: 6"x6" wood blocking used to support structural members for the assembly of the rigging equipment was not securely fastened to the building structure in order to prevent the blocking from becoming dislodged.
