Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm: Receiving area, west side of store; the Autoquip hydraulic scissor lift was not maintained in proper working order in accordance with the manufacturer's manual. Condensation formed in the hydraulic lines and cylinders freezing the platform in the raised position. Employee(s) were permitted to work near, around and underneath the lift exposing them to the hazard of being crushed or struck by the falling lift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to inspect and maintain the lift in proper working order in accordance with the manufacturer's operating/maintenance manual and safe operating practices that meets the American National Standard Institute Standard MH29.1 Paragraph 12.2. ***Certification and Documentation of Abatement Required***on
