Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling objects: a)building 2 - press shop, the alloy steel chain used in conjunction with Crosby load binders to attach metal bins to the tilting stand at the vibrator feed had damaged chain links. Or in the alternative 29 CFR 1910.184(d): Damaged or defective slings were not immediately removed from service. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to immediately replace the damaged chain, pad or protect the chain from the sharp edges of the load and begin an inspection program in accordance with the manufacturers recommendation and/or using good engineering practices.
