Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to slipping and falling: a/ Kettle Area: Means were not provided to prevent employees from being exposed to hot zinc during zinc coating operations. One feasible and acceptable means to correct this hazard is, but not limited to - provide: 1/ A step by step procedure to ensure that each operator is protected, i.e., where to stand while performing the operation; the use of the over head cranes and when to use them; the purpose of the guard rails located in front of the operation; how to safely dip the kettles into the tank when railings are not in place, etc. 2/ Adequate training and periodic refresher training, along with enforcement. 3/ The use and enforcement of all of the appropriate PPE during every zinc coating operation.
