Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) Two employees working from a JLG 600S (#0300055316) boom-supported elevating work platform were exposed to the hazard of falling, and/or being thrown out of the basket, while finishing fascia at a height of 28-feet. On 08-23- 01 employees working at 2515 Thonotosassa Rd in Plant City, FL were not protected by a personal fall arrest system and one was observed standing on the mid-rails of the basket to extend his reach. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is provide the employees with a fall restraint belt to comply with American National Standards Institute A92.5-1992 Section 8.8, which requires all personnel in the platform to wear fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all times; and, b) Two employees working from a Genie S65 (#310979) boom-supported elevating work platform were exposed to the hazard of falling, and/or being thrown out of the basket, while finishing fascia at a height of 28-feet. On 08-23- 01 employees working at 2515 Thonotosassa Rd in Plant City, FL were not protected by a personal fall arrest system and one was observed standing on the toeboards of the basket to extend his reach. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is provide the employees with a fall restraint belt to comply with American National Standards Institute A92.5-1992 Section 8.8, which requires all personnel in the platform to wear fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all times.
