Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: Employees working from a Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platform were exposed to injuries from falls due to the lack of fall protection as required by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992), Standard for Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platforms. (a) On or about July 20, 2001, at the Nativity Church jobsite, located at 705 E. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, Florida 33511, two employees working from a Grove Manlift, Model MZ116D, Serial Number 42400, were exposed to a fall hazard while working on the leading edge of a tile roof twenty feet above the concrete sidewalk. The employees were not wearing either fall restraint or a fall arrest system. Among others, several feasible means to correct the hazard are to: (1) Follow the requirements of the Operators and Safety Handbook for the Grove Model MZ116D, Manlift Aerial Work Platform. Section 2, Safety Precautions, Page 2-6, Falling Hazard, "An adequate fall protection device with lanyard attached must be worn by all personnel occupying the platform." (2) Provide the employees with a fall protection device complying with ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992, Section 8.8(g), which reads "Ensure all personnel in the platform are wearing fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all times." ***ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS REQUIRED***
