Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to oncoming vehicular traffic: March 27, 2002, employees who were working in and along Nicholson Road, Cumming, Ga, performing line clearance tree trimming operations were exposed to the hazard of being "struck by" passing vehicular traffic. The employer did not ensure that the work zone was erected with properly placed advance warning signs, cones, and other necessary work zone safety equipment to alert oncoming motorists. Among other methods, recognized and feasible means of abatement to correct this hazard include, but are not limited to: Full implementation of the applicable elements required by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Part 6, Temporary Traffic Control, December 2000 edition, Typical Application 18 (TA-18) for Lane Closure on Minor Street.
