Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) The hazards of smoke, fire, heat and steam in the event of a fire while blowing-down the crown level of the fiber-board press. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement among others is to institute a fire watch by an individual located outside the danger zone who is able to initiate rescue operations and equipped to communicate with the employee blowing-down the crown, and the press operator and able to institute procedures to delay the use of the deluge fire suppression system until the blow-down employee has cleared the area above the press. __ Abatement certification or documentation is NOT required for this item. __ Abatement certification is required for this item.
