29 CFR 1960.8(a): The employer did not furnish each employee employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm: (a) At the inspection site, the employees were exposed to a Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) 88oF to 93oF while performing housekeeping duties exposing the employees to heat stress. Means of feasible abatement include, but may not be limited to: (1) Make water available, without restrictions. (2) Train employees to recognize the hazards of heat stress; purpose and coverage of environmental and medical surveillance programs and the advantages of employees participation of the program and the first aid procedures for and the potential health effects of, heat stroke and especially the danger of using drugs, including therapeutic ones and alcohol in hot environment. (3) Wear cooler clothes. (4) Frequent breaks. (5) Increase mechanical and natural ventilation. (6) Use the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) Screening Criteria for Heat Stress Exposure and Activities within Metabolic Rate Categories.
