Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling from a tree: Location: back yard of 45 Bellain Ave. On or about: 6/4/01 a) An employee was trimming a tree approximately 30 feet above the ground, in preparation for cutting down the tree. The employer did provide the employee with adequate fall protection. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO: 1. Provide employees with fall protection as stipulated in ANSI Z133.1-1994 including, but not limited to, a tree saddle and climbing line. 2. Train employees in the proper procedures to follow for fall protection, while trimming/cutting trees. Note: The employer is required to submit abatement certification and documentation for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.ce
