Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard from entering an area where there was a hazard of the concrete walkway and grating caving in: (a)On or about November 21, 2001 an employee walking by the black liquor tank stepped and fell in a caved in area of the concrete walkway. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods include but not limited to: (1)Inspect this area and other areas to determine if there is a potential for further cave-in due to erosion; (2)Prohibit and or restrict pedestrian traffic from unstable area(s); and (3)Reinforce and or stabilize any existing concrete defects.
