Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck by hazard from a metal roof collapsing as a result of the knee braces not connected to the wood trusses to support the roof. (a)10121 County Road 525, Philadelphia, MS- On or about 11/5/01, one employee was struck and crushed by a metal roof on a broiler house forty feet wide and four hundred feet long without the knee braces connected to the wooden trusses. Abatement method: One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard includes but not limited to: (1) Install the knee braces to the wooden trusses before the braces on the outside perimeter are remove (2) Follow the Standard Building Code that reference the Truss Plate Institute, section 13, Bracing.
