Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to fall hazards from a grating which gave way. (a)The walking surface of the knuckle boom's elevated platform was not maintained to where it would support the weight of an employee assigned to work on the platform thereby allowing him to fall through the walking surface and drop 22 feet to the concrete below. Note: One acceptable abatement method, among others, would be to replace the walking surface grating in full length sections and attach it in such a manner that it cannot separate and create an opening through which employees can fall.
