Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing, or likely to cause, death or serious physical harm to employees. On November 30, 2001, at 1400 N. Corinth, Corinth, Texas, employees were using an Upright Model X26N, model #66100-010, serial #9159, scissor lift with two wheels being supported by two 2X8 planks. The employee was exposed to a possible fall hazard of 20 feet if the wheel slipped off the planks or rolled the lift off the planks with the operating controls. Some feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are: 1. Follow the guidelines in ANSI/SIA A92.6-1999, Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms. Specifically, the operator warnings and instructions which include use a lift on sloped grades and unusual operator support conditions. 2. Using a articulating arm lift or rought terrain forktruck with approved personnel work platform on a firm and level surface.
