Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being pinned under, crushed by, or thrown from a forklift during an accident due to not wearing the seat belt provided: a) At the Citrosuco North America, Inc. plant, an employee operating Clark CGP 30 #3233 propane powered forklift equipped with rollover protection and operator restraint system, was not wearing a seatbelt for protection from injury if the equipment were to overturn, on or about February 17, 2001. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO CONTINUOUSLY ENFORCE THE USE OF SEAT BELTS BY FORKLIFT OPERATORS. (Reference ASME/ANSI B56. la-1989 Addenda to ASME/ANSI B56.1-1988, and ASME B56.1-1993 Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks) ABATEMENT VERIFICATION REQUIRED
