Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of tipping over a lawn mower tractor: On or about 12/21/01, at the east side of the water canal at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution's Geno Park, while operating a Scag lawn mower tractor on a steep slope, an employee was exposed to the hazard of tipping over the equipment. Among other methods of abatement, a feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to prohibit employees from operating this type of equipment on steep inclines. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
