Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about 09/19/01, employees were exposed to the hazard of being run over as the Travelift mobile boat hoist (model #150AMO) was being operated in the vicinity of employees without proper personnel-deflecting guards around the leading edges of front and rear wheels. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to install personnel- deflecting guards around the leading edges of front and rear wheels. Deflecting guards should extend and be designed in such a manner to push persons out of the way of an oncoming vehicle and not capable of running them over. PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
